Hello, voters! My name is John Lehr, and I am running for Texas Representative 127 to give the everyday person representation. I grew up in Moore, Oklahoma, and have been living in Kingwood, Texas, since 2010. I studied culinary arts at the Art Institute in Las Vegas and Houston. In my professional life, I have been working in pest control for the last decade.
I am a candidate for the people, I base my decisions off of research and common sense. I believe that neither side is always right, and both parties need to work together. As your Representative, my focus will be on these key issues:
***No to school vouchers*** Public education is a vital cornerstone of every community. Every child deserves access to a quality education, I believe that and public schools are best equipped to provide that education. Private schools, on the other hand, have the ability to be selective with their student body and may not provide the same level of accountability as public schools.
Furthermore, diverting public funds to private schools through voucher programs can weaken the support for public education and deprive public schools of the resources they need to improve. This can also lead to increased segregation in education, as private schools may not be accessible to all students, particularly those from low-income families.
Overall, I believe that investing in public education is the best way to ensure that every child has access to a quality education and is given the opportunity to succeed in life.
* **Flood Control:** Flooding has been a major issue in our region on both a small and large scale. I will work towards increasing investment in flood control measures to ensure that our communities are not subjected to the devastation of natural disasters.
* **School Safety:** I believe that every child deserves to attend school in a safe and secure environment. I will work closely with local school districts to advocate for policies that will enhance school safety.
* **Healthcare:** Healthcare is a basic human right, and I will fight to ensure that all Texans have access to affordable medical care. I believe that health insurance should be affordable and comprehensive so that no one is forced to choose between their health and their livelihood.
***I believe government shouldn't be making decisions about women's healthcare. Healthcare decisions should be made by the individuals receiving care, in consultation with their healthcare providers. To support this principle, it's important to advocate for policies that protect and promote patients' rights to make their own healthcare decisions, without interference from the government or other third parties.
***As part of my commitment to supporting families and investing in the future, I will work to improve the child care assistance program by increasing funding and expanding eligibility requirements. This will ensure that more families have access to affordable and high-quality child care. By investing in our children and families, we are building a stronger and more equitable future for our community."
***As your State Representative, my goal is to promote the health and well-being of our community. I propose the expansion of Texas medical marijuana law as a potential avenue to achieve this goal. Medical marijuana offers a natural alternative to traditional prescription drugs and has been shown to help alleviate symptoms of various conditions. Let's work together to ensure that patients have access to safe, effective, and natural treatment options for their health needs.
***I am committed to prioritizing the health and well-being of our community. That's why I believe in eliminating daylight savings time. The negative impact it has on sleep patterns, productivity, and overall public safety do not outweigh any potential benefits. I will continue to advocate for the elimination of daylight savings time and work to raise awareness about this issue. Join me in creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all."
Thank you for considering me as your Texas Representative HD127. Together, we can create a better, brighter future for all Texans!
